Reverend Kenneth Thomas, Sr., a native of Washington, D.C., was called to pastor Johnson Memorial Baptist Church on September 1, 2022.

Following his education in the District of Columbia Public School System, Reverend Thomas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  During his military career spanning 25 years, he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam and two tours of duty in Iraq in Operation Desert Storm.

In January 2001, Reverend Thomas joined the Freedom Way Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. George A. Fitzgerald where he served in the Deacon Ministry as the Co-Chairman, President of the Men’s Ministry, President of the Male Chorus, and the Trustee Ministry.

Reverend Thomas received his call to preach the Gospel in 2013, and, after much prayer and confirmation from God, he accepted his calling in July 2014 and began attending the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary. There, he earned Bachelor of Theology and Master of Divinity degrees. Reverend Thomas has also earned a Master Certificate in project management at George Washington University and an Associate of Arts degree in business administration at Prince George’s County Community College.

After preaching his initial sermon on June 13, 2015, Reverend Thomas was licensed by Reverend Dr. George A. Fitzgerald.  In August 2015, he was called as a Temporal Pastor at the Lake Shore Baptist Church in Pasadena, Maryland.  Reverend Fitzgerald ordained him to the Gospel Ministry in July 2019.

He is married to the former Sandra L. Pritchett, and they currently reside in Clinton, Maryland. Together they have four children (two sons and two daughters), five grandchildren, and one great grandson.

Reverend Thomas is a member of Missionary Baptist Minister’s Conference of D.C. and Vicinity and “Men in the Gap,” a men’s ministry support group. He is also a former professor of pneumatology and missiology at Washington Baptist Theological Seminary.

Reverend Thomas’ favorite scripture is found in Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” He desires for God to use him for His glory, whenever and wherever He chooses.
